Whether you’re flying into Roatan, Bay Islands (RTB) or San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP), you’ll find convenient connections that bring you right to the doorstep of our island paradise.
 

Both airports receive direct international flights from major U.S. cities including Miami, Houston, Atlanta, and New York, making Utila an adventurous yet surprisingly easy-to-reach destination in the Bay Islands for divers and travelers.
 

Getting to Utila from Roatan (RTB)

Daily Ferry Service
The most common route is the Roatan to Utila ferry, which operates daily:

Roatan to Utila: Departs at 2:00 pm.

Utila to Roatan: Departs at 10:20 am.

Duration: About 1 hour.

Cost: Approximately $35 USD per person, each way.

The ferry dock is only 10 minutes from Roatan International Airport, and Utila Lodge can help arrange a taxi with trusted local drivers (around $10–$15 USD).

Charter Flights
For speed and convenience, private charter flights are available:

Flight time: ~15 minutes.

Cost: Around $450 USD per plane, one-way.

Capacity: 3–4 passengers (depending on luggage).

Works out to roughly $115–$150 USD per person when shared.

Getting to Utila from San Pedro Sula (SAP)

Although there are no direct flights from San Pedro Sula to Utila, this route is popular with travelers arriving from many international cities.

Taxi Transfer to La Ceiba

Travel time: About 3 hours.

Cost: Approximately $125 USD per taxi, one-way.

Highlights: This scenic drive passes through Honduran villages, tropical lowlands, and alongside dramatic 13,000-foot mountain ranges.


Ferry from La Ceiba to Utila

La Ceiba to Utila: Departs at 9:00 am and 4:30 pm daily.

Utila to La Ceiba: Departs at 6:20 am and 2:00 pm daily.

Duration: About 1 hour.

Cost: Approximately $35 USD per person, each way.

This option is ideal if your flights don’t line up with Roatan or if you’re exploring mainland Honduras before visiting Utila.
