Getting Here | Utila Lodge

Getting to Utila

Like many destinations in the Caribbean, getting here is apart of the adventure!

We have put together the following information to make both the travel planning and journey as safe and as easy as possible.

Travel to Utila is most easily accomplished by first flying to San Pedro Sula, Honduras (airport code: SAP) or Roatan, Bay Islands (airport code: RTB). These two international airports have direct service from several U.S. cities including Miami, New York, Houston and Atlanta.

Coming From San Pedro Sula (SAP):

We recommend flying into San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and Saturday to Saturday travel will be your most convenient and cost effective. The airline we tend to use is CM Airlines and we can take care of booking these inter-island flights for you. The cost is normally $229/person round trip (including tax), however, we do recommend getting a direct quote from us before fully planning your travel budget.

There are some local flight times that you’ll need to be aware of as well – the flights from San Pedro Sula (SAP) to Utila (airport code: UII) are around 3:00 p.m., so you will want to shoot for arriving at SAP by 1:30-2:00pm at the latest on your arrival date, and have your departing flight (from SAP back to your origin) be after 11am the following Saturday, since the flight from Utila back to SAP is in the morning usually around 8am. These flights are only about 40 minutes long.

On non-Saturday flights, we use SOSA Airlines which flies from SAP to Utila on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, and Saturdays and back from Utila to SAP on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays on alternating weeks.

There are ferry services available from La Ceiba to Utila if flight schedules do not work out. There is a van ride that can be taken from SAP which is about 2.5-3 hours through some beautiful 13,000 foot mountains and Honduran villages. The van is $145/person and will take you to La Ceiba to catch the Utila Dream Ferry which is about an hour long and costs $25/person one way.

Coming From Roatan (RTB):

We can also arrange flights to Utila from Roatan – they are just not regularly scheduled flights direct and will range depending on how many people fly on any particular day. The price of these flights vary so budget between $200 to $250 per person for the round trip airfare.

There is daily ferry service from Roatan to La Ceiba (and back), so coming to Utila via Roatan on the ferry is an option – the ferry from Roatan to La Ceiba is about and hour and a half and then you’d have to catch the ferry from La Ceiba to Utila.
