The Mesoamerican Reef System

Utila sits right on the edge of the Mesoamerican Reef System. It is the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef and stretches over 700 miles from the Yucatan Peninsula to the Bay Islands of Honduras. Our reefs here are teeming with life. Utila’s waters are host to more than 500 species of fish, 350 species of mollusks, and 65 species of stony coral.

While diving, you’ll have the pleasure of sharing the reef with eagle rays, hawksbill sea turtles, moray eels, nurse sharks, trigger fish, parrot fish, angel fish, porcupine fish, groupers, sea horses, nudibranches, and much much more. You’ll find them among the beautiful and towering coral structures covering Utila’s reefs.

You will be blown away by what you see with us underwater. It’s time for you to make a trip!
